London Sci-fi Costume Parade – 28th April

The annual sci-fi parade marched off Sunday afternoon to commence the 12th annual international Sci-fi Film Festival.  Well over 100 people marched from Stratford Picture house, around Stratford to show their love and passion for all things sci-fi!

266psWith a variety of cosplays on display from Supergirl, Storm troopers and Captain Jack Sparrow. However It was clear us Brits have one show on our minds at the moment; Dr.Who, with the show celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, attendees were sporting an array of costumes from the series. The parade was led by a Dalek, with weeping angels, cybermen, new assistant Clara and the doctor himself in tow!

During the march, passers-by stared in awe, took pictures, cheered, honked car horns and one even bought my friend a tea – as apparently she looked cold!

To celebrate our successful march, a special after party was held at Stratford Circus with the theme of sci-fi and fantasy consistent; a giant golden snitch hung from the ceiling, Dr Who montages were screened and free donuts were on offer!

234psOverall, a fun afternoon, with the weather on our side – clearly Storm (X-men) had spoken. The Sci-fi parade is an annual event, one I will look forward to attending again; I think next year I may even attend in costume! The Stratford Picturehouse has some other fun activities to check out to celebrate their Sci-fi week including a bank holiday pub quiz and film screenings!
