Q&A with Maids of England

01In preparation of the forthcoming MOE Love Concert I caught up with some of the maids and butlers from MOE and Tea Prince to find out about maid culture and how to be a good maid!

Head Maid Mao

What is it you love about the maid culture in Japan?

Mao has not been to a Japanese maid cafe, but I have to say from what I’ve seen, they are all very cute! Mao especially loves the heart-shaped petticoats they have at home. It’s all very ‘moe’. Mao also likes all the cute food that they serve! One day Mao hopes that she can go to at home and meet some of the maids there and try their yummy food.

Why did you decide to become a maid?

Mao was chosen to become a maid because of her superior intellect- actually, it’s because she was bossier than the other maids. Mao decided to accept the previous head maid’s offer for promotion because she secretly likes telling people what to do. Not Goshujinsama or Ojousama though of course!

What is the most important thing to remember for being an exceptionally good maid?

You should always remember that Goshujinsama and Ojousama are there to have a good time! I think that it’s a real strength of Maids of England that we put so much emphasis on our customers and our interaction with them. Maids should not just be waitresses in cosplay, but a developed character who it is possible for Goshujinsama and Ojousama to connect with! Good waitressing skills are needed though, I guess.

What’s a big no, no, for being a maid?

Oh the usual things: no spitting, no smoking with your legs crossed, no spilling food on goshujinsama or ojousama. I think that covers it? I’m very busy organising things for the concert right now, so I’m going to head off, okay? Please be sure to check out our concert!

03Butler Shen

What is it you love about the Maid culture in Japan?

I have been to a Maid Cafe in Japan, It is just so cutee, all the pretty dresses and cuteness everywhere, and food i like a lot of foodddd, they serve the best cute desserts, I almost can’t eat them because of the cuteness ><

Why did you decide to become a butler?

I followed Kouhei to the ends of the Earth to support him in his endeavors because of my endless brotherly love for him but has decided to stay even though Kouhei left me >(, I love making my Lords and Ladies happy, because it grants me even greater joy ^__^

What is the most important thing to remember for being an exceptionally good butler?

Our Lords and Ladies must always be happy and smiling even if giant dinosaurs invade.. Also make sure no evil spirits take over our magical bodies and say weird things that does not sound like me

What’s a big no, no, for being a Butler?

Upsetting the Lords and Ladies by spilling food/drink on them, making them unhappy  Make sure you check out our future eventsss \(^ ^)/

06Maid Miyuu

What is it you love about the maid culture in Japan?

Every Maid-san Miyuu met in Japan is soooooo moe~~~ and very talented, Miyuu aspires to be almost as good! >w< They can sing and dance and look so cute all at the same time D=

Why did you decide to become a maid?

Because it’s part of Miyuu’s programming- but she is glad it is, as she gets to meet so many lovely goshujin-sama and ojou-sama when she is serving at the cafe, which makes Miyuu very happy!

What is the most important thing to remember for being an exceptionally good maid?

As Miyuu’s idol, Hitomi from @home cafe says, the philosophy of “Aikome” (With love) is most important! Maids have to always serve with love and moe spirit!

What’s a big no, no, for being a maid?

Mmmm….Miyuu thinks probably spilling things on goshujin-sama or Ojou-sama would be bad! Thankfully, Miyuu has never done this but Miyuu has seen Dhee-dhee have very near misses..

Maid Dhee-Dhee

04What is it you love about the maid culture in Japan?

Uwaaa~ where to start? The beautiful dresses, the cool concepts and backstories like in Royal Afills Magic School, but mostly the fans who go just to see the adorableness in action. The goshujin-samas and ojou-samas who really feel the blossoming moé emotion our café is named after, whenever they see a dance or a magic spell are the best. They’re my favourite part of a café ever, I think! ^-^

Why did you decide to become a maid?

A maid cafe is the cutest place in the world, and what person doesn’t like to indulge in cute things? No person, that’s who!

What is the most important thing to remember for being an exceptionally good maid?

You have to always think of your goshujin-samas and ojou-samas. If you work your hardest to perform your best, serve your best and be your best the lords and ladies of the house can tell you care about their happiness. Happiness is what a maid has to cherish above all else, so this is key ~

05Maid Shin

What is it you love about the maid culture in Japan?

mm… Shin has never been to maid cafe in Japan, but the maids look very friendly and cute! It seems like such a fun way to spend the time and make friends with them! They are also good at dancing and it’s nice to watch!

Why did you decide to become a maid?

Well… Shin has always wanted to meet new goshujin-sama and ojou-sama! ♡ And I had heard that some M.O.E. maids were not 100% human and wanted to investigate! I’m fascinated by science and robots, so meeting Miyuu-chan was very special (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

What is the most important thing to remember for being an exceptionally good maid?

Shin thinks it’s important to be attentive and make goshujin-sama and ojou-sama confortable and happy when they come to visit! ♡ Having a unique personality and being positive are also good qualities I think.

What’s a big no, no, for being a maid?

Being forgetful with orders or not talking or playing games with goshujin-sama and ojou-sama… they are there to spend time with us!

Please come visit us sometime! m(_ _)m

02Maid Momoko

What is it you love about the maid culture in Japan?

Momoko absolutely loves how cute and adorable all the maids are in Japan! They are seem so cheery and genki!! Don’t they just make your heart feel all warm and fluffy?? >w< Oh, also, my Onii-tan really, really likes maids for some reason…and I like everything that my Onii-chan likes! ^///^

Why did you decide to become a maid?

Well, when I arrived to England, I heard rumours that I have an older sister who works for MOE! Also, I really wanted to train to become a better little sister for my lovely onii-chan…so here I am! *giggles*

What is the most important thing to remember for being an exceptionally good maid?

Most important thing is to make everyone around you smile and be happy! If you make them happy, they will make the people around them happy! And then those people will make the people around -them- happy! It’s a big fluffy cycle that will go on and on~~ It’s something onii-chan had always told me.

What’s a big no, no, for being a maid?

Making people sad…

Thank you all! Can’t wait until my next maid and butler café!
